The Virtual Management Campus (VMC) is a pilot project, which has the support of the Région wallonne and the Fonds Social Européen.

It is run by means of a new partnership between the three leading institutions of higher education in the French-speaking Community: the Solvay Business School (ULB), HEC Liege and the Institute for Management and Administration (IAG-UCL).

Together, their aim to take advantage of developments taking place in training methodologies and new technologies in the fields of information and communication.

The SBS, HEC and IAG have defined their vision for the VMC based on three principles:

- the acquisition of expertise and preparation for fundamental change in university education;
- a strong and credible presence in international teaching projects at distance;
- the development of inter-university collaboration that generates global capabilities, supported by a critical mass of financial means.

The objective is clear: the Virtual Management Campus, accessible at distance, allows participants to attend courses accoding to their own needs, taking either a single course or a number of courses that together form a complete programme, with or without a diploma at the end.

To achieve this objective the consortium set up a project team in March 2002. The team comprises a project leader and a teaching consultant, specialised in educational technology and distance learning. Representatives of at least two of the partner institutions coordinate each learning module.

This project should enable us to have eight workable modules finalised by the end of 2006 and to identify the phases involved in an on-line course, so as to provide guidelines for appropriate methods of work.

Here are the modules that are currently under development or in finalisation process:

  • Introduction to marketing (Jean-Pierre Baeyens, Claire Gruslin, Jean Tondeur, Isabelle Schuiling);
  • Introduction to accounting (W. Niessen, M. De Wolf, S. de Patoul);
  • Supply chain management (Robert Nondonfaz, Pierre Semal)
  • Enterpreunal Strategy (Paul Verdin, Steve Nysten, Alain Vas, Michel Schoobroodt);
  • Organisational change and Entrerpreunal Strategy (François Pichault, Jean Nizet);
  • E-business (Renauld Delhaye, Olivier de Wasseige);
  • Introduction to Finance (Eric de Keuleneer);
  • Human resources management (Michel Verstraeten);
  • Preparation seminar for the role of manager (Jean-Marie Dujardin).
