In addition to the facilities offered by the host city, every university has a life of its own. The ULB, the VUB and the Solvay Business School are no exceptions. Located in the heart of the capital of Europe, with everything that this represents, the campuses are a hive of activities.

A number of student organisations have been set up to facilitate life for Solvay students.

Cercle Solvay

At its origin, the association was called "Union des Ingénieurs Commerciaux". The diploma of Science in Management was the only diploma delivered by the school until 1970.

In 1999, the association was extended to all the school's graduates. It comprised all 3rd cycle graduates, including for example those who completed the Executive Education courses offered by the school.

The Union of the Graduates of Solvay Business Scholl (UDECS) was created. It was renamed Solvay Business School Alumni in June 2004. Solvay Business School Alumni currently has more than 12,000 alumni, active iall spheres of the economy.

The association's misson is:

  • To host our school amongst the top European or even worldwide Business Schools while fully using everyone's specificity and complementarity (students, teachers, graduates). The intention is clear: the top 50, the top 20 and even the top10;
  • To serve the school's graduates on the long term, thus contributing to the permanent accreditation by EQUIS;
  • Reinforce the network by:
    • Organising it better each year; by its diversity and its internationalisation;
    • Coching and helping members who request our support;
    • Creating a variety of events, sharing information, experience and organizing various activities;
  • Make the graduates sensitive to the school's financial situation;
  • To improve and convince, when necessary, of the association's utility. Today, only 16.6% of our graduates are member of SBSA. We wish to double or triple this number by proving that SBSA plays an important role in supporting the school and serving the alumni. More information: http://www.cercle-solvay.be/ (in French)

Solvay Student Office

The role of the ULB Solvay Student Office (BE) is to:

  • Provide appropriate representation for Solvay Business School students within the various School bodies, including the Administrative Office, the Council and the various section and faculty committees (teaching and finance for instance);
  • Encourage change and development! We can mention here the reform of the language courses, for which some of our previous delegates campaigned so hard, the recent extension of the courses in general culture in the Master’s programme and the forthcoming opening of computer rooms that will be available to all students in the faculty;
  • Communicate changes and reforms introduced into the School;
  • Participate in the life of BESOCO, the Student Office of the SOCO faculty.

Solvay Kring

The VUB Solvay Kring is the association for “Handelsingenieur” students.

Next to their many activities such as dances & parties, movies, trips and sporting events, Solvay Kring also sells course notes and course summaries.

Inisol

Inisol (Initiatiefgroep Solvay) was founded in 1978, by a group of committed senior students.

The purpose was, and remains, to bring Solvay students closer to the business community.

One of their activities is the organization of a trade mission for students in the Dutch VUB “Handelsingenieur” programme.

Another important activity is the “Business forum”. Each year several important companies are invited to the VUB campus to make company presentations designed to enable students to get to know these enterprises better.
