How to identify a good BFP?

  • A BFP is a strategic or operational project that should address real needs of your company.
  • It can consist in solving a real issue your company is facing or help your company in evaluating and, eventually, seizing a business opportunity.

How to start a BFP?

  • Step 1: You identify a potential BFP for your company and contact the BFP Manager. Deadline for submission of projects: December 31, 2006 (to be finalized through December and January).
  • Step 2: Your project will be discussed and further defined with the BFP Team.
  • Step 3: Three or four students will be assigned per consulting team, based on the best possible combination of functional business skills and/or national origin to maximize both the creative and analytical approaches applied to your company’s business problem or opportunity.
  • Step 4: A carefully designated coach will guide each team throughout the consulting process. Projects are held between February and June. Each student should contribute 100 hours to the project, which accounts for 35 to 50 mandays in total.

Typical roadmap

  • End December: Mission statement and agreement on project description
  • Early January: Staffing - Students are submitted for the assignment
  • January 20: "Administrative" Kick-off (Final agreement on the scope and team)
  • February 1: Internal kick-off (students get informed on the assignment and context)
  • February 15: KICK-OFF Meeting with the company
  • March 1: Teams present their approach to the project to BFP coaches
  • March 1 - April 15: First round of interviews and first draft realized by the team
(interactions with the company and the BFP coaches throughout the project)
  • April 15: MID-TERM Meeting - Presentation of the progress and first draft report
  • April 15 - May30: Second round of interviews and final report gets done
(interactions with the company and the BFP coaches throughout the project)
  • June 1: Internal Presentation (students present their report to the coaches)
  • June 15: Final report and presentation to the company
  • June 15 - June 30: Feedback process
