En contraste avec ce paysage sombre, le thème du bonheur au travail semble envahir les préoccupations des entreprises. Est-ce une vraie révolution? Une vague de fond? Un cache misère ? Venez donner votre avis au:

The Crises of Microcredit - Book release

The Centre for European Research in Microfinance (CERMi) is proud to announce the release of the book The Crises of Microcredit (London: Zed Books, 2015).

The Crises of Microcredit - Book coverMicrocredit programmes, long considered efficient development tools, now face unprecedented crises in a number of countries. Is this the end of microcredit or rather an essential step in its expansion?

Drawing on extensive empirical research, this important volume examines the whole chain of microcredit to provide the answers to these questions. In doing so, the authors highlight the diversity of crises, both in intensity and in nature, while also shedding light on a diversity of causes. Crucially, the authors demonstrate that microcredit is not a monolithic project, and the crises should also be analysed in the light of national histories and policies.

Edited by Professors Isabelle Guérin, Marc Labie and Jean-Michel Servet, all associated with CERMi, this book is the outcome of the research project “Microfinance in Crisis” (www.microfinance-in-crisis.org), supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB) through its EIB University Research Sponsorship Programme, that involved Paris I Sorbonne University (France), CERMi (Belgium), Fribourg University (Switzerland), and LASAARE (Morocco).

We wish to congratulate all the authors who contributed to this book, among which a great number of CERMi researchers: Bert d’Espallier, Davide Forcella, Cyril Fouillet, Cécile Godfroid, Isabelle Guérin, Marc Labie, Solène Morvant-Roux, and Jean-Michel Servet.

Please feel free to circulate this announcement (and the attached flyer) to your colleagues or to any person that may be interested.

The book can be purchased here: www.zedbooks.co.uk.

Workshop on the Social Economy, Entrepreneurship and Altruism

Centre Emile Bernheim Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management - January 4, 2015, 1.30 pm

Solbosch Campus, Avenue F. D. Roosevelt n°42, 1050 Brussels, R-building, 2nd floor, room 107 (R42.2.107)

More and more people are aware of the limits of the capitalist economy, which should not be confused with a market-driven, entrepreneurial economy. Other forms of economic cooperation, business, entrepreneurship and collaboration are widely practiced. Even when they are not dominant in the economy, they allow people to give meaning to their lives, create value for their community and give people the opportunity to contribute to objectives that go beyond self-interest and profit maximization. The workshop will discuss new research on the broad topic of a social economy as a means of people to contribute to better societies.

Program
1.30 pm Introduction by the Dean, prof. Bruno van Pottelsberghe
1.35 pm "Alternative Enterprise and Sustainable Prosperity" Prof. Fergus Lyon, Middlesex University
2.15 pm "Solidarity taken Hostage" Prof. An Ansoms, UCL
3.00 pm "Are Universal and Parochial Altruism substitutes or complements? A natural experiment in Flanders (Belgium)" Prof. Philip Verwimp, Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management
3.45 pm Coffee Break
4 pm "Micro-entrepreneurs in Rural Burundi: Innovation and Contestation and the Bottom of the Pyramid" Public Defense of the doctoral dissertation of Katarzyna Cieslik

Emerging Trends in Marketing
Lecture Visit of Prof. Dr. Vel Prakash from University of Wollongong in Dubai, UAE
Prof_Dr_Vel_Prakash
On the 7th of October the Advanced Marketing lecture hosted a guest speech about the recent study “Emerging Trends in Marketing” by Dr. Prakash Vel. The impact of changing technological trends on marketing is imperative. Lack of insight by marketers has resulted in the down fall of well-known brands. As insightful marketers adapt to key trends, others either ignore new advancements until their strategies run obsolete. The time used to bail firms out of such archaic circumstances might have placed competitors ahead. The traditional marketing elements that have been used previously to root brands have totally changed in the last decade with the rise of internet access, social media, and technological advancements. Contemporary marketing strategies are driven by some key trends which cannot be ignored anymore. Identifying such salient trends and their contribution to marketing strategy development is critical to success of modern-day firms. The study assesses literature on 14 trends based on discussions with industry experts and data from a global perspective.

Dr. Vuong Quan Hoang of Centre Emile Bernheim and colleagues have the new paper on the methodology of measuring corporate/organization inclusive innovation capacity, named as i2Metrix, published in the inaugural issue of ASEAN Journal of Management & Innovation (ISSN: 2351-0110; URL: http://journal.stamford.edu/index.php/ajmi).

This paper discusses the issue of measuring corporate innovation capacity, and proposes a method for implementing such measurement program (i2Metrix). The actual survey on 19 Vietnamese leading businesses suggests that the i2Metrix design is working and can be further improved for future use. Responses by firms‟ executives show not only their awareness of innovation but also interest in management tools and methods to make use of this crucially important but elusive concept and resource. Insights from the survey highlight a disciplined process of innovation, adoption, and diffusion.

i2Metrix introduced and implemented for the first time in Vietnam
Vuong Quan Hoang, Researcher of Centre Emile Bernheim, and Nancy K. Napier, Director of Centre for Creativity and Innovation (Boise State University) have since 2011 worked on a long-term project to develop a measurement program to investigate and support innovative capacity in the Vietnamese corporate sector.
In February 2014, together with colleagues at Hanoi-based DHVP Research and Saigon-based Centre for Business Studies and Assistance (BSA), the two scientists have successfully designed a set of innovative measurements applicable to the corporate sector, called i2Metrix (read "i-squared metrics") the name that was given by Dr. Dolly Samson of Bangkok-based Stamford International University, an adviser to "i2Metrix" project.
The implementation followed with a survey on 19 most productive enterprises in the BSA's Leading Businesses Club, leading to early results that were released in a i2Metrix 2014 Preliminary Report, which have been covered in mass media in Vietnam after two seminars in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb 25, 2014 and Long Xuyen City (An Giang Province) on Mar 6, 2014. 17 firms actively engaged in innovation practices and management have been given awards by Vietnam's Minister of Science and Technology following the first time application of i2Metrix.

It is expected that more firms will be using the i2Metrix plan to self-investigate their capabilities and seek methods of improve their innovation management practices amid rising wave of competition in the years to come.

French online-questionnaire on SRI preferences
The Department of Finance at the University of Regensburg conducts a study about socially responsible investing preferences and beliefs. It deals with attitudes and estimations toward sustainability that private investors have in their investment decision.
The success of this survey is heavily dependent on your support. Therefore we would be most grateful if you could take the time to participate in this online-questionnaire:
https://www.soscisurvey.de/nachhaltigkeit2013/?r=ceb
It takes only 5 to 10 minutes. The online-questionnaire comes in three languages. You are especially invited to go for the French version.
Thank you very much for your help in advance. Please, feel free to further distribute the link.
